Frequently Asked Questions

How We Got Started?

The number one question we get asked is, “Why scooters?” The second is, “How did a scooter club become a 501(c)(3) charity?” The story behind the Greater Phoenix Scooter Club (GPSC) is heartfelt and inspiring, beginning with our founder, Jason.

Nearly ten years ago, Jason attended a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) training at RI International. During this class, he heard the harrowing stories of aged-out foster children who had endured traumatic experiences and inadequate education and care. These young adults, despite their pasts, were striving to become certified peer support specialists to help others navigate the mental health and support systems. Jason was deeply moved and troubled by the contrast between Arizona’s wealth—one of the wealthiest areas on Earth—and the reality that over 12,000 foster children remained in need of permanent homes.

This stark reality stuck with Jason. He couldn’t reconcile how a state known for its wealth and pro-life values could still leave so many children without the support and homes they needed. The idea of making a difference festered within him for years until he realized that his passion for scooters and the community he found in the Greater Phoenix Scooter Club could be the catalyst for change. On the day Jason could finally afford his dream Vespa, he met Angie and Terry, a couple who shared his enthusiasm for scooters. Inspired by their camaraderie, Jason decided to form a club. After their first ride, Jason discovered a community of more than 30 like-minded individuals who were not only passionate about scooters but also eager to make a positive impact.

This shared vision led to the formation of the Greater Phoenix Scooter Club as a 501(c)(3) charity. Since then, we have been able to channel our collective energy and resources into making one of the largest sustained regular donations to support foster children. Our club rides are not just about the joy of riding; they are about gathering good people who share a common goal—to make a real change in the lives of these kids.

Although GPSC is not yet a Qualified Foster Care Organization (QFCO) and the Arizona tax credit does not apply to us, we are deeply committed to our mission. We encourage you to support our partner organization, The Foster Alliance, a QFCO, where your recurring donations can have a profound impact. Together, we can bring hope and support to foster children, one ride and one donation at a time.

Thank you for considering joining us in this journey. With your help, we can continue to ride for a good cause and make a lasting difference in our community.
