Building a Non-Profit Board: Our Journey and Call for a Secretary

Starting a non-profit organization is both challenging and rewarding, especially when the cause is as vital as supporting foster children. At Greater Phoenix Scooter Club, Inc., we embarked on this journey driven by a collective passion for making a difference. We are a group of scooter enthusiasts, led by Jason Kelly, CEO of Imaginary Defense, who decided that the foster care crisis was too significant to ignore.

Our Board Members

Establishing our board was a crucial step. It involved a lot of coordination, as each member has a busy schedule. However, the shared commitment to our mission made it possible. Our current board members include:

  • Cheseree Gaston, President: Cheseree brings a wealth of leadership experience and a deep passion for child welfare. Her ability to inspire and guide our team has been invaluable.
  • Dr. Angi Fountain, Vice President: With a strong background in healthcare and community service, Dr. Fountain provides critical insights into the well-being of foster children and ensures our programs are aligned with their needs.
  • Tony Appell, Treasurer: Tony’s financial acumen has been essential in managing our resources effectively. His careful oversight ensures that every dollar raised is used to its maximum potential.

Despite our dedicated team, we are still in search of a Secretary. This role is crucial for maintaining our records, coordinating meetings, and ensuring our compliance with legal requirements. If you are organized, committed to making a difference, and looking for a meaningful way to contribute, we would love to hear from you.

Overcoming Challenges

Creating a system that works with everyone’s schedules was not easy. Our board members juggle various responsibilities, from their professional careers to personal commitments. Yet, the urgency of our cause kept us motivated. We held meetings in the evenings, on weekends, and even via video calls to ensure that everyone could participate.

The Importance of Our Cause

Supporting foster children is a cause that resonates deeply with all of us. In Arizona alone, there are over 10,000 children in the foster care system. These children face numerous challenges, from emotional instability to frequent relocations. By providing support, we aim to make a tangible difference in their lives, offering them the stability and care they deserve.

Join Us

If we, a group of scooter riders with a shared vision, can come together to form a non-profit, we believe that anyone with a passion for helping foster children can contribute meaningfully. We are currently seeking a dedicated individual to join our board as Secretary. If you have the skills and the heart to help us in our mission, please reach out to us. Together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of foster children.

Join us in this rewarding journey. Your contribution could be the key to providing a brighter future for many children in need.
